Sunny and I went up to the creek again. I'm clearing out a place to hang out.

There was a different crop of fungus this time… they were velvety. Very pretty.
I decided to try my hand at tapping a big leaf maple tree.
It actually worked.
I'm practicing my woodswoman skills.
The sap is distinctly sweet.
I even took a little video of it.

I'm hoping to go back up there tomorrow and see how much sap has dripped into my bucket.
No, I'm not going to make syrup with it. The 40 to 1 ratio is a bit daunting. But it IS a way you can get clean water to drink in the woods without having to boil it.
And the maple I have tapped here is not a sugar maple. I'm not sure if that would make a difference in the flavor of the syrup.
But there's sugar in it. No doubt about that.
Will report back soon on the contents of the bucket.
