Miss Jane Bares All
Sun Aug 17 2014

Book title: "Miss Jane's Summer From Hell" I think she has decided to get all the bad news over within a few month's time, because now she is going through a molt of epic proportions. She's a sorry sight to behold…. DSCN4096   I felt like the Paparazzi stalking her this morning, trying to get a picture. You know, like the one's they take of movie stars as they are leaving the gym all hot and sweaty and disheveled? Besides Jane looking pathetic, the coop and run are littered with feathers. I read up on it and what Jane needs right now is some higher protein foods to help her grow her new plumage. So I opened a can of mackerel yesterday and the whole flock had a treat. BOY do they like canned fish! This feather growing business can last many weeks I'm told. It's a good thing it's not cold outside! Anyway, these are the nitty gritty details of keeping chickens. And that's the naked truth. (Oh brother.)   lime-wild

But will the mackerel make the eggs smell fishy? It's a question...

perhaps a knitted cover-up would be nice - never hurts to plan ahead

Poor thing! Don't let her see a picture of herself or let the other hens tease her. Maybe you need to knit her a cute little sweater or shawl.

I would give them Diatomaceous earth mixed with sand in little play pool or something for them to roll in. Mites can make them loose feathers too......
