Today was the day. For filling the garden beds. It started out overcast and fairly cool. But by the second half of the job it was afternoon and a bit too sunny for my taste. Thank goodness I had help. N. was there to make the job go faster. Otherwise I think it would have killed me outright. I still feel a little woozie. The dirt pile looks like mice have chewed all around it. DSCN7468 There will be plenty of good manure for some time to come. I have one more bed to construct out of the telephone pole and I could spread some of this on the rest of the garden before winter. Though I'll have to borrow a rototiller. And now there's no chance of moving furniture in the garden. Those beds are in their place. DSCN7473 We think they will need topped off a bit as I expect the soil to settle somewhat, and I'm going to cover them with plastic to keep the rains .. [oh let them come!] from leeching all the good stuff out of the soil over winter...[oh let it come!] I am ready for the seed catalogs. Perhaps this next year I'll be able to grow lima beans. I love those when they are homegrown. And perhaps I can actually get some parsnips to thrive. We shall see. At least I'll know I have done the best I can in preparing. It was a good day's work. But Lordy, I think I'm going to be sore in the morning....   lime-wild

looks fantasic! as an experienced diy-er (3 years of slavery in the name of my nest!) I do understand the efforts invested. I would also promise that it will bear fruits...or vegetables...eventually, it will. May the forces of nature be with you on this! :-)

I had a raised bed garden many years ago in Richmond, VA. It produced bunches of vegetables (and fruits - says the science teacher). I had my very own ratatouille patch! Crossing fingers and toes for good rains for you (not on the scale of South Carolina though). Goodness but Mama Nature is mixed up (or ticked off) these days....
