Welcome To My Living Room
Fri Dec 04 2015

My sister-in-law and I went for an EPIC shopping trip yesterday to the lovely tax free state next door, and I brought home some things for the living room. I also tried to buy a camera, but came up empty handed. More on that later.... So after days and days of hard labor and thinking and stewing and re-considering, I have it all done except for some kind of valances for the windows. This may take me a while to figure out. Here's part of the room during the carpet cleaning phase... DSCN0136 Sunny seems to think that is her spot no matter WHAT is going on around her. RIGHT in the doorway to the kitchen. Anyway, here is the room today: DSCN0192 Thanks to InStiches, I have the north window covered. . . completely. The only thing to look at out that direction was the storage shed, and I love how well her quilt fit on the window!   Probably the most important thing in the room are the new speakers I got for the laptop. There's a woofer down there, making everything sound awesome! I have all my music on the Amazon Cloud and have just been letting it play all day long through a scary huge list that I have compiled over the years.   DSCN0179   And rolled up there next to the music is my yoga mat. I now have a cheerful and roomy place to take up my yoga practice again. No more excuses. :-) DSCN0193 Here's my fireplace now. I bought some garland and a package of lights to put the finishing touches on the top. S. brought me the bunch of Eucalyptus last night, it looks perfect in that spot. DSCN0166 And here's my electric wood stove. I just love this thing! It not only warms up the room, but it makes it look very cozy and the fake logs and flames are real enough to make you think there's a real fire in there. [Don't tell Bruce.]   I set up my new loom in a corner all to itself. I hope to warp it up sometime in the next few days. DSCN6541   I bought two new lamps at Fred Meyer. I could not resist the pine cones. I need a lamp shade for the other one. Didn't find any that suited me, so this one is wearing one stolen from an unused lamp I had in the house.   DSCN0186   And finally, here's a kind of moody shot of the view from the green recliner.... DSCN0178 Notice Sunny is in her usual spot. Come hell or high water, that's where you'll find her. And here is the quilt my sister-in-law made for me. It makes my heart sing. DSCN6543   My dear friend C. please try to calm your nerves about the shelf not being centered. I placed it there so there would be room for the front door to open all the way. Deep breath... in... out... in out...  :-) And lastly... I know this may jangle some nerves because it IS a bit overbearing, but I found this quilt at the second hand store and it was so big and had the same green in it as the chair, I decided to get it to cover that huge expanse of brown paneling. DSCN6547 I'm keeping it there until in my travels I run across something that is more in my color scheme. For now, it will do. Poor C. said when she saw it that she felt like she was having a psychedelic episode. I thought that was a little bit of an exaggeration, but she has sensitive nerves. Anyway... that's my living room now. I made a little ceremony, said a few prayers and when I was all finished, I lit a candle with a soothing aroma, and played lovely music in honor of the day. One thing that I think helps me a lot about the new arrangement is that all the corners are visible. I did that on purpose. I wanted the energies to be able to flow freely around the room... and I have to say, they certainly are. I'd like to thank my dear friend and honorary sister N. for the two chairs. They are just so perfect and I'm grateful for the gift of them. They compliment the gifted quilts in there, and as a matter of fact, that may be a big reason this room is now so different than when I first moved in. The generosity of friends creates an atmosphere of love. And I'm basking in it tonight. Still working on the name. It will come in due time.   lime-wild

I had the honor of sitting in this room today and I must say it is very welcoming, cozy and well....just lovely. I was at peace and could have stayed a lot longer if it wasn't getting so late. I think I will suggest we study in that room next week. :) Great job in putting it all together, SIL. You achieved your goal.

Yep! I agree with Mamallama. Fill it with friends! Whee! I think Sunny takes that spot so she can see in all directions and guard you. T-man likes entryway viewing too. Photo #1 - is that your front door? Breathing.... ;)

I happen to love the psychedelic quilt. I think matching valances would complete the look :-) Great place for a Thursday night gathering...

Room of peaceful generosity, filled with light and music; in other words the room has found its identity as a sanctuary, a place of refuge......... seems an appropriate entrance to Heartwood Cottage. :)

Your room is beautiful, and I love all the quilts, the pinecone lamp and the hand-woven dish towels that were pictured in another post. Write on :)
