Look for a Job ? Me ?
Tue Jan 07 2003

Job hunting. Oh my gosh, it fills me with dread. But I am going to find a part time job. I am not sure WHAT I will look for, but I AM going to look.
It is so stressful, looking for a job. I am trying to get in the frame of mind that I will be interviewing THEM, not the other way around. Because at this stage in my life, I am way pickier about what I am willing to spend my time doing.

I have the strangest work history. Here is a list of jobs that I have had:
Waitress (for a very short time), telephone operator, factory worker (4 days, what an experience THAT was ! ) , nurse’s aide in a psychiatric ward, (explains a lot huh ? ) nurse’s aide in a regular hospital and a nursing home. I ran a bookeeping machine at a bank and also printed checks using a drum roller printing press, ( cool job ). Long break here where I raised 3 boys to manhood, my MAIN job. Then I got a job stuffing and sewing up exclusive limited edition teddy bears by hand. Then I was a baker, baking from scratch at a bakery and café. ( no frozen bread dough for me! ) And finally, I worked as a caregiver for an elderly woman for 3 years.

This history looks like a patchwork quilt, what what ? If I could choose to do any one of these jobs again, I would choose the nurse’s aide at the psychiatric ward. What a fascinating place that was ! (explains a lot :-)

Now you know my work history, would YOU hire me ?

My new job description:

I could do psychiatric counseling over the phone while keeping a running tab on the bill. And if that didn’t help you I could stuff you with homemade bread and sew you up in a caring manner. And I won’t even ask for a tip !

Suppose there’s a market for that ?

I think mothers who've already raised their kids are terrific at just about any job they're handed. I'd employ you, for sure. ;-)

Hey, raising 3 kids should qualify you for whatever you're interested in! Domestic Goddess. But you can do that without pay. Let's see:
    (1) With your experience as a domestic goddess you could manage a restaurant (buying produce/ meat, planning menus, supervising kitchen and dining room, quality control, making sure the servers washed their hands before handling food. And that's just a start.
    (2) You could open a bakery, or supply above restaurant with baked goodies.
    (3) Create toys, and open a toy store.
    (4) Counsel families with 3 boys.
    (5) Mentor children (but that's usually volunteer, so scratch that).

By the way, why work for someone else? Be your own boss. Any one of the above would effectively take you away from home for say 26-30 hours a day.

Do you REAlly want to go to work outside your home?

LOL at the part about sewing them up free of charge. I agree with the other comments the fact that you've raised three boys should qualify you for anything that requires organisation/detail work. Hope the job hunting works out for you, I don't know if you have this in the US but have you considered envelope stuffing or marketing most of that you get paid quite well and never have to leave the house.
