Out Of The Closet
Fri Jul 30 2004

Oh, I'm tired of being in the closet. I'm coming out. Yes, it's true. Everything you have heard. It's all the absolute truth.

I admit it.

I started out as a poet.

It's all I could write for years and years and years. Too bad I didn't live in Emily's time. Poetry got more respect. When did it become something that one apologizes for?

"Yes, I write poetry. So sorry."

A Beam of Light

A beam of light, a shade of blue.
The shadows at dusk, the memory of a fragrance.
The stroke of a brush, the turn of a phrase.
The breath of a song, the line of the horizon.
Each of these can be our teacher.

A truth can be revealed by a discarded paper cup.
There are no limitations to moments of awe.
They are not confined to mountain heights
Where only the strong and idle may roam.
They live among the common things of life.

A crust of bread, a fallen leaf.
A breeze that touches our hair.
Water running over our hands.
A passing word from a stranger.
All things at hand, all things within reach.
Every moment of every day
Can become the gates to Wonder.

And a very nice poet you are too. I like it.

I too have been known to write poems, but mine are often silly and always rhyme. In recent years I have followed in my grandmother's tradition of writing birthday poems. Should I get bold and post one?

By this verse my 6th sense divines you will like the movie "In America". Have you seen it? Weird fact, but true: one of the cast members in "my" movie was in that, playing an immigration officer. Way cool! He's really nice too.

Shame on you for apologizing for something so beautiful!

Poetry is a lost art. Like manners.

    Shalom

If I had my way, I would have Pergo flooring throughout at least the downstairs, if not the whole house. However, it is an additional $10K for just the downstairs, $20K for both up and down on top of the price of the house. That, and Hubby likes/wants/requires/demands rugs as he likes to go barefoot and doesn't like walking on uncarpeted floors. The types of area rugs he would agree to if we did have non-carpeted floors cost a fortune, so that is out too.

I'm with you though, with kids and a dog I would much prefer non-carpeted floors.

Writing poetry is like flushing out those random thoughts and emotions from the brain. I see it as extremely therapeutic. On occasion I feel the impulse to write poetry and place it in my diary. Hell, who cares if anyone can or can not understand my riddles, they are mine and I am keeping them safe to remind me that I like to play the part of the Sphinx. It is my toy and I will share if I want. LOL

Your poem is incredible. I absolutely love it. Sounds like something from a Hallmark Card. This is a classic.
