These Titles Are Killing Me
Wed Sep 29 2004

After sitting in front of the keyboard for 5 minutes banging my head on the desk, I gave up on a clever title. I'm afraid that's all your going to get today. Sorry. Used up all my creative juices doing the following.....

I'm feeling quite smug.

I sat down and re-wrote my next two chapters on the novel that I worked on several days ago at the coffee shop. They are all tucked into the binder and saved on disk.

I did feel a little silly though. I was not satisfied with my arrangement to read notes from my clipboard. The thing was too far away, I needed it closer. So I went into the kitchen and got a quart jar of home canned tomatoes to prop the clipboard against.

Worked great.

Looked silly.

That pretty much sums up my strategy for life in general. My solutions to problems usually work fine, but they are rarely much to look at. When elegance was getting handed out, I think I was picking daisies or something.

In any case, I won't feel smug for long. Because I just peeked at the next pages I have to work on, and they are the really raw rough draft from the NaNoWriMo contest last year. These chapters I just finished had been gone over once before. Now I dive into the jungle. Things have changed in the story, I have many loose ends to weave together into some kind of whole cloth. And then it will need to be sewn into a garment fit to be seen outside the house.

Whose idea was this anyway?????

(Crazy, wild eyed, wanna be novelist. That's who.)

This is what I get for talking to myself.

In other news.

That library assistant job I applied for in the dead of night on line a few weeks ago?

I got a nice letter letting me know that. . . "your application was not among those selected to continue further in the recruitment process."

Hmmmmm.

Signed by one Wendy Fox, Personnel Technician.

Well, it was nice of Wendy to take the time to let me know I DIDN'T MAKE THE CUT!

No, really, it was nice to hear one way or another.

My next tactic is to check out a few bookstores to see if someone needs a worker who: 'works fine, but who is rarely much to look at.'

If so, I'm their girl.

Your clipboard arrangement reminds me of my hat arrangement - that too - looks pretty silly but will serve for what it should...
Where did you say, you've been picking those daisies? I'm sure I must've been somewhere around at that time too ;-)
Good luck with your "weaving" !

And what would be wrong with grabbing a jar of tomatoes to prop up a book? ....unless you were thinking that you should have picked something more fitting to the season......like canned pumpkin. :)

Too bad about the library job. It would have been perfect for you.

As for not being noticed, you have a self-effacing way about you. Until you start talking. You have a sharp mind behind that quiet exterior. You'll find something that suits your ability and desire.

Sorry about the library job... I suppose the apple pie is gone by now and can't give you comfort?

I would love to visit a bookstore and have you available to help me with my selections! And I bet you would get an EMPLOYEE DISCOUNT, which would be a HUGE PERK!

Well, maybe we will both end up working for Barnes and Noble. I really do want to work there, if I could get hours that would work with my current job (not likely). Good luck with it all!

Wendy is a dingbat, I just know she is. Her loss, that's for sure!

Well done I'm feeling guilt pangs for not doing any work on my own writing so I am doubly awed. As for the elegance thing blame it on the star sign we Aquarians are known for our brilliant and quirky solutions not the design aesthetics!

Fingers crossed for the bookstores jobs

    Hugs
