Running on Empty
Fri Jun 12 2015

This Spring has been full of a lot of changes and even more filled with a lot of obligations. I've been running to and fro so much more than usual, I hardly know what day it is half the time. I'm hoping for the pace to slow down a bit, so I can catch up with my psyche. It's a busy time of year for the yard and garden too, so making time for those projects has been challenging. Today I worked on the last side of the chicken yard. I weeded and moved a couple of plants to fill in gaps. DSCN6727   The inside of the chicken yard is like a moonscape. They peck everything into oblivion, so it's nice to have some green growing things to offset the nudity.  :-) DSCN6729   Iris, spearmint, lavender, hollyhocks and oregano. The soaker hose will be on them all day long today. It's supposed to be 93 here today. Whew! I worked hard at getting some pictures of the chick, but she is an illusive little clucker. DSCN6673   There she is hiding in the young lilac plants. DSCN6697 She is doing her 'grown up hen' imitation. DSCN6702 She's going to need a name soon. I'm meditating on it. In the meantime, Lydia has gone broody and I'm not doing a THING about it. I do not need EIGHT chickens.   After I did all that weeding, I went over to my rock stacking spot and balanced a nice group of rocks. I didn't have my camera with me, so didn't take a picture. But later on I went back out there and found this teeny tiny plant blooming away. It looks like a miniature lily of some kind. DSCN6710   And out in the garden, the potatoes are growing beautifully... DSCN6718 I'm still waiting for my other root crops and the kale to sprout. I am giving them one more week. If they don't start popping up, I'll have to re-plant. I'm sure hoping they do. It's nerve wracking being a gardener. You think I'd be used to it my now, but I'm not. Tomorrow is Shabbat. I plan to do as close to nothing as I can possibly manage. I really DO need a day of rest.   lime-wild
