Love Among The Ruins
Mon Sep 28 2015

Yesterday I went out into the garden and with great emotional difficulty, pulled up the forlorn plants that were growing here and there in the ruins. The only thing that was REALLY hard to pull were the Zinnias, as they were still blooming. But I had to take them out. I then raked up the leftover mulch and Mr. P helped me place the raised beds. DSCN7462 I spent a long time shuffling my little 'to scale' bits of paper on the map of the garden, trying to figure out the best placement. The boxes needed to go toward the south end of the garden because up against the fence on the north, it gets pretty shady in the afternoon. I wanted to make sure I could walk around them easily. DSCN7461   I love them! That little plant in the foreground actually escaped being pulled up. It's a Stevia plant. And yes, the leaves are VERY sweet if you chew on one. Though I will say, that plant has pretty much stayed the same size all summer long. Go figure. Looks like the ends of the beds will be a nice backdrop for planting flowers next year. Next step is to call a guy that everyone tells me will bring me a load of topsoil. That's going to be fun... hauling wagon loads of it to the beds. Who needs a gym membership? We have farm chores!   lime-wild
